Ten Hands High – Silent (With You)

Release Date – 9th November 2020

Words: Tom Farmer

Based in London but very much from Leeds, Ten Hands High are a self-professed “Live act to be reckoned with”. With their first single and initial string of gigs in their hometown of Leeds, the band re-located to London. After releasing five singles in as many months and a sold-out headline set at Islington’s Hope and Anchor, the band have gained the attention of BBC Introducing and This Feeling, promoters who gave the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen and Kasabian their big breaks. After supporting fellow indie newcomers, the Clause, the Leeds lads have built solid foundations to go from strength-to-strength.

The new single, however, is a versatile step away from their indie roots. With R&B-influenced instrumentals, but maintaining an indie pop vibe, the track sounds like an amalgamation of Sea Girls and chilled R&B. I mean this is as a compliment, by the way. Chilled but with a bouncy guitar solo, certainly suitable to simulate a mosh pit, the tune has strong festival credentials. With clear musicianship and creative lyrics, the tune would not sound out of place in any archetypal indie playlist or radio show.

The track is based on a scene from Tarantino’s cult-classic “Pulp Fiction”, perhaps not just in lyrics but also in sound. With the theme of song, content silence in the presence of the one you love, being inspired by a quote by the vivacious Mia, the instrumental certainly has aspects of the classic movie’s expressionist and futuristic aspects. For film pseuds and lovers of chilled indie pop, Ten Hands High’s latest release is the perfect fit.
