Throwback of the week (30th August)

When it comes to love songs, Elvis is always my go to and ‘Always on my Mind’ is always on my mind when I do so.

Always on my Mind – Elvis

“Maybe I didn’t treat you, quite as good as I should have” opens the song, a lyric which will resonate with most of us – the feeling that you’ve not given 100%, that you could have done more.
Lyrically, ‘Always On My Mind’ isn’t the most complicated song you’ll ever hear, in fact it is very blatant in its message. There is nothing subtle about the message here, “and I guess I never told you, I’m so happy that you’re mine.”

Ultimately, this is one of Elvis’ most famous songs and I can see why, it is absolutely gorgeous. Elvis Presley has incredible vocal range and really was the ‘King of rock n roll’ but this song shows off his more elegant side. The beautiful melodies backed by a barbershop quartet leaves you with a tear in your eye and your heart beating through your chest. There is a reason this is one of Elvis’ most popular songs, and why so many bands have covered it ever since.

The word “masterpiece” gets thrown about a lot these days, but the 1973 hit definitely falls into that bracket!
