Fleetwood Mac – Landslide

‘Landslide’ is one of the most spell-bounding songs I have ever heard – it changed my complete outlook on music. This beautiful ballad filled with emotion moves me every time I hear it, I do not know what it is – Nicks’ delicate vocals or the poignant lyrics. This song is like your nanna, a comfort blanket for many. It wraps you up in a warm hug of Buckingham’s wistful acoustic guitar.

This song was written in 1973 when Nicks was considering giving up music completely. Buckingham and Nicks’ solo album was not doing very well and thier relationship was deteriorating. The bittersweet lyrics of Landslide only took 5 minutes to write which is astounding, especially considering this song would go on to be one of the biggest songs of Fleetwood Mac’s discography.

This song still transcends and resonates with so many people across the world. Upon joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975 this was one of the several songs Buckingham and Nicks brought with them.

On the surface this song is simplistic, but their chemistry together is what enhances the rawness and
stark meaning of the song. This chemistry is what would go on to form the basis of many Fleetwood Mac songs from ‘Dreams’ to ‘Go Your Own Way’.

This legendary classic is something I believe that everyone should form the basis of their playlists
with and if it doesn’t then you should go and immediately add it.
