I’ll Sail This Ship Alone – The Beautiful South

I may be bias with Paul Heaton coming from my hometown of Hull, but I don’t think many can deny that this man has one of the most unique, lovely voices in the business.

Just one of the many incredible songs in The Beautiful South/Housemartins repertoire, ‘I’ll Sail This Ship Alone’ is more than just your average love song. It is a song about ultimatums, about choices and about breakups.

“Now if, if you insist, that this is for the best, well then I’ll sail this ship alone.” The song discusses the final conversations of a relationship, about how they one partner no longer cares for the other, and in the case of this powerballad of a track, the feeling is very much one sided.

Musically, it is just a delight and was the perfect choice for our valentines throwback!

So listen, learn and love.
