Cocoon – Catfish and the Bottlemen

The darlings of the Indie community, and a band we have given a lot of stick to over the years, it can’t be denied that Catfish and the Bottlemen are one of the biggest indie bands about and have several banging tunes, none more so (in my opinion) than ‘Cocoon’.

Like many of you reading this, Catfish were my first proper band I really got into, and The Balcony, their debut album, was a huge part of my teenage years. This is a band I’ve seen live now more times than I’ve had Sunday dinners, and they rarely disappoint on the stage. Although we may give them a hard time for not changing up their sound, they found a working formula with their debut album and I believe this sound is encapsulated in ‘Cocoon’.

Wether it be in the pubs, clubs, gigs or just through your earphones, this song never fails to hit the spot. With the famous “Fuck em’ if they talk” being wailed out at the chorus, it’s hard not to find yourself tapping your feet and singing along.

Admittedly, I have fallen out of love with this band but the other day whilst I was cooking tea, this came on shuffle and I found myself singing along and having a cracking time, almost heading back into my teenage years with a cheeky grin on my face.

I am honestly intriqued to hear what Catfish and the Bottlemen come back with for their fourth album, one many are dubbing as a ‘make or break’ album; but wether it is or not, their debut will definitely stand the test of time, and ‘Cocoon’ will be played for years to come!
