Inspired by an imaginary conversation with legend Leonard Cohen, ‘Radio Friendly Death’ is a mixture of funky rock riffs mixed with soulful vocals all brought together by a chorus you can’t help but sing along too.
Featuring Sharlene Hector on backing vocals, the grizzly nature of Philip’s vocals are complimented perfectly. Add in Morrissey’s guitarist Boz Boorer then you have the perfect recipe for success.
Much like Leonard Cohen, this track takes on dark themes of death and loss. “Life is a conveyer belt” is arguably the most poignant line from the song and is something I’d never actually considered before, but it is so accurate.
Ultimately, ‘Radio Friendly Death’ takes death and darkness and turns it into a summer hit I can’t wait to whack on around the late night summer fire.
