Friday July 16th will see the latest release from Preston quartet The Empire Police.
As a band I have listened to for a number of years, I couldn’t wait to finally sink my ears into this track, and it did not disappoint. ‘Need to Live’ is their first release of 2021… an infectious bop which combines powerful vocals and explosive, guitar driven instrumentals, with elements of psychedelia. For fans of the likes of Courteeners, Arctic Monkeys and The Lathums… the track brings an upbeat energy and an evocative message. Written by frontman Jordao Bassa, lyrics such as ‘this new normality that has us living in despair’ and ‘we expect nothing but complacency and greed’ recognise the struggles of the pandemic and restrictions. Highlighting a longing for the day-to-day things we used to be able to do post-lockdown.
The tune was recorded over a period of months ‘one by one due to social distancing’, and mixed at Futuresounds Studio in Longridge by the band’s very own Tom Hale. Out just in time for further easing of lockdown, ‘Need to Live’ marks a difficult 18 months for society. It is clear The Empire Police have used this time to polish their sound, writing words that many can resonate with, and I can’t wait to hear what’s to come.
The lads have a number of gigs upcoming, including a sold out homecoming support slot for The Blinders at The Ferret on their August tour. ‘Need to Live’ is set for release on Friday July 16th, so keep your eyes on Twitter for updates, and be sure to get it pre-saved!
