I am a huge sucker for a two-piece band (such as Cleopatrick and SOFT PLAY), however this two-piece band that started in Guildford named Son of Cabe, made up of Singer and lead guitarist Conor McCabe and Drummer Jack Holland brings a breath of fresh air with their first single this year entitled ’17’ which tackles themes of struggles within new relationships and anxiety of opening up your past problems and experiences with fear of the people not fully understanding and being scared away.
Despite the emotional themes layered within the single, the upbeat drums and catchy lyrics and vocals from McCabe give a summer days vibe to the song, I can see these two playing a tent at an indie festival such as YNOT or Truck Festival with the crowd dancing and singing lyrics back at the band as they perform.
The song and band itself give mix of Wallows, Vistas and 1975 with a good mix of alt indie pop style of music that makes you feel nostalgic.
’17’ is extremely catchy and after several listens I had myself vibing a lot more to its rhythm and singing along as I write my notes and if this single is a sign of what’s to come for this band, then we are in for a treat as they are a perfect summer band and should take pride in being so, to have a band make me feel much nostalgia and relation to its song within the first couple listens is an achievement and having this talent is a good hook to keep people interested in their style and music.
Overall, this single brings a lot of relatable themes alongside a catchy blend of music that I hope the band continues to provide as they are definitely a band that I’ll keep looking out for as new music is released and should be a band you should check out as well, they’re hard working and making music they enjoy which is full of emotion and in the end what more could you ask for from an artist.
