The Snuts – Millennials (Album Review) This is all very daunting, the first review I’ve ever written so bare with me if I get lost a long the way…
The Snuts are a band I was late to the bandwagon for, I’ll admit I’m one of those people who rarely gets into bands via someone telling me to get into them and that’s probably why I was a late believer in what The Snuts do.
After falling in love with their more politically driven second album ‘Burn The Empire’, it was clear to me that this West Lothian Indie band were capable of being an Indie Powerhouse for years to come.
Millennials cements that notion even further, every track feels like it’s got its place not only on the record but on big festival stages too, which will land perfectly when they headline Sound City in Liverpool this May as well as the multiple festival appearances they’ll be making this summer.
The Snuts have always been a band that take production seriously and you can hear that straight away on this record, each transition that leads into each tune brings the record to life as if it’s almost placing you into a live session in your living room or wherever you’re listening.
This record is full of life, love and positivity which will resonate with audiences all over the world. This album is the first they’ve released under their new independent label ‘Happy Artist Records’ with distribution coming from ‘The Orchard’.
It’s hard to pick some standout tracks from this record because they’re all so strong but I’ll narrow it down to three which feature on the standard edition (I’d highly recommend picking up a Deluxe Edition if you can, the bonus tracks are worth it).
The first of the standout tracks for me is ‘Gloria’, I think this one has bias because I’ve already got a great memory attached to it, when they supported Courteeners at Heaton Park last summer, it was a proper moment, I was surrounded by my best mates and a bunch of fellow Snuts fans and we had a ‘Tesco-esque’ flag that we were holding up with pride during their set (shout-out to Sarah), so with that, ‘Gloria’ earns a spot straight away.
Secondly, I’d like to highlight the absolute bop that is ‘NPC’ we’d already heard this as it was released as a single in the run up to the release but it’s chorus alone is a serious ear-worm that I’d been humming for weeks after hearing it.
Last but not the least, the one I’ve already ear-marked as ‘The one that will make me cry when I see them live’, that song is ‘Circles’. A perfect end to a near perfect album from The Snuts, it perfectly encapsulates everything that is beautiful about ‘Millennials’ and I am very excited to see them again when they take to the stage at Kendal Calling as well as on their UK Tour at the end of the year.
