Yes finally! ‘Candid’ are back with their first taste of new music in 2024 and with that the first single from their upcoming EP ‘CLARITY’ (due to release on the 7th June).
‘Too Much or Not Enough?’ Is the perfect stomper to get us back onto the ‘Candid’ bandwagon after what seems like an eternity without them and if I’m being honest, I’d be happy to wait again and again if it meant the end result would be this good every time.
Straight out of the gates with a sound that had been hinted at in their previous work (see ‘WASTED TIME’ and ‘THE TRUTH’) but this time it feels like a more refined, refreshed and mature version. This first single feels like a big step into what ‘Candid’ really want to be, as much as there is big guitar riffs throughout this tune, it feels like it’s being put through an indie disco fuelled lens with imagery of dance floors being filled with bodies moving and grooving to every kick drum thump. On that I will say the rhythm section of ‘Candid’ provide such a solid foundation for the synths and the guitars which allows them to move around and fill the space tremendously.
In Rob’s EP notes he says that lyrically “the song explores themes of uncertainty and a never ending urge to second guess, giving up a love, to give enough to something else, but where does the buck stop?”, you can certainly hear the emotional vulnerability of this in Robs vocal delivery which doesn’t hinder his performance here at all, if anything it makes it more commanding.
I think the best is certainly yet to come with this EP and I can’t wait to see how this goes down!
