After witnessing last night’s gig, I can honestly say that Trampolene’s debut headline at the newly opened Horwich venue was victorious! I’m still in awe at the talent the three-piece brought to the stage, especially after travelling 300 miles to get here. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Jack Jones along with drummer, Kyle Williams and bassist, Wayne Thomas were given a roaring Horwich welcome as they marched on stage to “ARTWORK OF YOUTH.” They thundered into “YOU DO NOTHING FOR ME” with fans eagerly hurrying to the edge of the stage.
Jack had us all in the palm of his hand as we chanted along throughout every single banger on their setlist as well as frequently swinging himself from the metal beam above us. We had a mix of songs from all 3 albums with the critically acclaimed “OH LOVER” and the notorious “UNCLE BRIAN’S ABOTOIR.” Jack jumped off the stage to join his fans and share the microphone as they sang “NO LOVE NO KISSES.” We were then delighted with a spoken word interval of “POUNDLAND” and the huge favourite, “KETAMINE” which, was then acknowledged as an anti-drugs message for the little spectators who were there. Other hits which brought the house down included the anthem “ALCOHOL KISS” and the more recent “THINKING AGAIN.” I don’t know if the local delicacy of Carrs’ pasties had anything to do with it, but considering they had spent 7 hours travelling, the Swansea trio brought bags of galvanised energy to the stage.
Jack Jones’ crowd engagement was indeed a humble one, acknowledging the town and fans who had travelled from as far as Wrexham and even Germany to be there! We were also treated to highly anticipated and successful cartwheel on stage from Kyle and thankfully no sustained injuries. Their mesmerising stage presence matched that of their bigger shows in city centres. It genuinely felt as though we were at a gig in Manchester, not 20 miles away by the Lancashire border! It just showed to me that Trampolene put 110% in, even for intimate gigs.
It was a wild, and certainly untamed conclusion to their RULES OF LOVE AND WAR Tour, which will no doubt be talked about through the town for the next few weeks. They truly have contributed to encouraging the local music scene in Horwich to thrive. Bring on the next gig!
