Words: Rachel Moorhead.
Following the release of the massive single ‘Blood For Gold’ my expectations of ‘The
Common Ground’ were set at a very high mark and safe to say The Rah’s have delivered.
Fans of early Arctic Monkeys records are going to love this one. With tracks featuring big
indie swagger and throbbing bass it’s hard to believe The Rah’s aren’t already big festival
headliners.
The band made up of Jack McIeod (vocals), Neale Gray (Drums), Jordan McIntyre (guitar),
Lee Brown (bass) and Jack Miller (keyboards and acoustic guitar) have dropped a definitive
sophomore album that declares their place in the modern rock scene.
The East Lothian legends confidently cross and blend genres giving “The Common Ground’
an exciting depth.
A real standout for me is ‘I’ve Never Been Wrong’ as it perfectly encapsulates and oozes
indie rock. The guitar work throughout is razor sharp and draws you in straight away. The
chorus explodes with that signature massive sound that screams this is a track from The
Rah’s. I think that is one of my favourite things about this band, they know who they are,
and they have their own unique sound in what is a very busy genre.
Another one of my favourites would have to be ‘Intrusive Thoughts’ with its funkier groove
and vocals. Something about this song is so addictive and I can’t stop hitting the repeat
button. The Rah’s are a band I’m dying to see live and the explosive guitar solo in ‘Intrusive
Thoughts’ is one of the many reasons why.
To sum up, if you haven’t already given this album a listen what are you doing? It is only a
matter of time before The Rah’s are headlining the world’s biggest stages, so you are going
to want start listening now to claim fan status before your friends.
