Being from Belfast, I love discovering new Irish artists and Shaun Finn is certainly one to watch. The independent artist from Dublin has had previous success with songs like ‘Galway’ topping the Irish charts in 2022. ‘Galway’ is a contemporary singer-songwriter track delicate but packed with emotion.
Shaun’s latest release ‘Love Is A Contact Sport’ marks a definitive spot in the modern rock genre. The song is about dancing with the people you love, and its meaning certainly translates to the instrumental of the track. The groovy guitar riffs provide the perfect rhythm to move around to, aka dance.
If you’ve read any of my reviews before, you’ve probably gathered I’m quite a visual person and I like to imagine a scenario for the songs I’m writing about. With ‘Love Is A Contact Sport’ I’m picturing jumping around (probably quite awfully) with a partner and not caring what anyone thinks because it’s love. What I’m picturing here is also how the track makes me feel, it has that upbeat and euphoric feeling that being in love gives you.
I think Shaun is a really exciting artist who suits every genre he has tried. Perhaps I am a little biased on the modern rock era but ‘Love Is A Contact Sport’ really suits the depth of Shaun’s vocal and, despite being in a very popular genre, this song has a unique sound that’s memorable and stands out from the crowd.
