These Acts Epitomise Everything Indie Is About: 5 Artists We Think Will Be Big In 2024!

Words: Keira Knox

As we approach the fifth month of 2024, the volume of new music being released already indicates that this year will go down in history. Fans of rock and indie music are already having a fantastic year with new albums, reunions, and huge gig announcements from the well-known artists. But finding a new band just before their big break is one of the best things ever. Still, there are a lot of undiscovered bands who are deserving of considerable recognition, and I want to draw attention to those that have slipped under the radar. The indie music scene is ever growing, and these acts epitomise everything upcoming indie is about!

NAVY:

First up are the four-piece rock group NAVY, the band were founded in Sheffield and is made up of Oliver Graham on rhythm guitar and vocals, George Craft on lead guitar, Kyle Marriott on drums, and Mattthew Jones on bass. NAVY is a band to keep an eye on after the release of their singles ‘Take Me There’ and ‘Easy,’ which highlight the band’s flexibility and solidify their own unique style. NAVY’s latest single ‘Easy’, released in January of this year, is one of my favourite releases of 2024. The beautiful vocals and the flowing guitar riffs blend flawlessly to create a song that is truly unique. ‘Easy’ demonstrates the band’s unbelievable talent, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else NAVY releases in 2024!

The band is scheduled to perform as the headliners at The Pack Horse in Leeds on April 26th . They will be following in the footsteps of iconic artists such as Bring Me The Horizon and The National, who graced the stage early on in their careers. Tickets are still available to purchase, so make sure to get down and check them out!

Casino:

A classic 60s Motown sound blended with the trademark Liverpool melodies; Casino have already made a big impression on the local music scene. They have impressed in supporting roles alongside Jamie Webster, The Zutons, and The Lightning Seeds. Not only have they received great reviews for their performances at the Ynot Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival, but they also have the support of major radio stations including BBC 6 music, BBC Radio 2, and Radio X.

When I saw them open for The Lightning Seeds at the Liverpool Olympia in 2022, I was immediately drawn in by their distinct 60s take on contemporary indie music, and I haven’t stopped listening to them since! I suggest you check out Casino if you enjoy the music of Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, and The La’s as they’re a band that will definitely catch on with music fans around the country!

Casino already has an extremely full schedule for 2024. They have a festival spot at Y Not? Festival, in addition to performing at This Feeling’s By The Sea. There will also be a hometown performance at Liverpool’s Sound City. The band have an exciting year ahead of them, so make sure to give them a listen!

Flora Rose:

With her enthralling melodies and haunting vocals, indie-pop musician Flora Rose is
beginning to make a lasting impression on listeners. Inspired by musicians she admires, such as Nieve Ella and The 1975, Flora Rose clearly connects with her audience who share her interest in this eclectic range of genres. In order to appeal to her already devoted fan base, she isn’t hesitant to blend several genres together in her discography. In the indie-pop music scene, she is someone to watch. She has been able to create music that is both well-liked and meaningful because to her talent and persistence. Her distinct approach to her craft will surely serve as an inspiration to musicians everywhere. Her passion for her line of work is evident in her music. Her debut EP “Synthetic Flowers For A Romantic Comedy” is a credit to her devotion to her craft and is beautifully pieced together to create an EP that perfectly encapsulates Flora Rose’s distinct sound.

Coming off the back of embarking on her first ever tour, a supporting slot alongside Nieve Ella on her Lifetime of Wanting European tour dates, I am anticipating huge things from Flora Rose! She is an artist that deserves all the recognition that is coming her way!

Disorder:

Disorder are a Belfast-based four-piece indie band. Disorder formed in 2022 and are comprised of David England on vocals and rhythm guitar, Ewan McAra on lead guitar, Jack Porter on bass and Michael Tinnelly on drums.

Following supporting appearances alongside Neon Waltz, Corella, and Tom Hingley;
Disorder have graced the main stage at some of Belfast’s most notorious venues, including The Limelight , Voodoo, and Ulster Sports Club. The band has seen a rise in popularity with the release of their single, ‘Pretty, Pretty, Pretty’, which went on to garner great reviews. Their latest single ‘Millennial Dreaming’ is nothing short of incredible, the rasping vocals paired with the powerful drum beats and catchy guitar riffs are clearly a formula for success for the band.

With influences from bands like The 1975, Inhaler, Fontaines DC, and Wunderhorse, they promise to be a band that will be performing on the huge festival stages in the not-so-distant future.

The Winslows:

The Winslows are a Lincoln-based band that performs unique songs influenced by legendary musicians from the past and present. The band is starting to get recognition that they truly deserve. In an effort to increase their fan base, frontman Rhys Turner, guitarist TJ Reeve, bassist Nathan Lilley, and drummer Joe Kelley have been touring the nation and their hard work is paying off.

On April 18th , the band released their most recent single, ‘The Rounds,’ and it is all you could ask for from a classic indie-rock song! It’s a catchy, upbeat track that shows off The Winslows endless amount of musical talent. It is reminiscent of tracks from incredible bands such as Hard-Fi, Stereophonics and The Libertines.

2024 is set to be a big year for The Winslows, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
