Coming off the back of major success with their debut album, ‘MADRA’ in
January of this year, NewDad have exclusively released their cover of The
Cure’s ”Just Like Heaven’ due to demand from their devoted fanbase. Taken
from a live recording at the BBC’s Maida Vale, the Galway band have left their
audience stunned yet again with simply beautiful vocals and moving melodies.
The shoegaze meets grunge sound of NewDad has an intensity and
closeness that draws listeners in and captures the attention of a wide range of
individuals; this cover certainly possesses that quality. Lead singer, Julie
Dawson’s vocal ability in this cover is nothing short of spectacular. The vocal
range she possesses is undeniably fantastic; her vocals add a unique
perspective to the original sung by Robert Smith. This classic song is given a
contemporary spin with NewDad’s unique sound, all the while preserving the
authenticity of the original.
This tune demonstrates how hard NewDad has worked to get to this point in
their careers; they are true masters of their trade in every way, from the vocals
to the amazing musical ability. Their unquestionable expertise has allowed
them to preserve the original’s pure spirit, with dreamy guitar riffs
complemented by soft basslines and funky drumbeats.
The Cure, Wolf Alice, Beabadoobee, or New Order are all influences on New
Dad’s compelling closeness and intensity among the despair of existence.
Without a doubt, this band merits your whole attention. The amazing live
performances of NewDad will be available to festival attendees this summer at
Boardmasters and TRNSMT festival.
