Palaye Royale have never been a band to shy away from confronting the music industry’s wrongs and speak the truth about their experiences and their new single ‘Showbiz’ proves just that.
Lyrically, the song addresses topics including exploitation and lack of creative control,
something the art-rock band formed by brothers Emerson Barrett, Remington Leith and Sebastian Danzig have had a lot of experience with over the past decade of their career. ‘Showbiz’ doesn’t leave much to the imagination with the lyrics, ‘So they kill another dream, feed on my self-esteem / Well hey kids, this is showbiz’ getting straight to the point of discussing the trials and tribulations of being a young musician.
‘Showbiz’ takes a more pop direction than a lot of Palaye Royale’s previous work, with an incredibly catchy chorus that would lend itself very well to a live show. However, the band don’t make the full crossover into pop, with a guitar solo from Sebastian Danzig in place of a second verse and a heavy, Muse sounding bassline in the pre chorus that really drives the song and could inspire a mosh pit when played live.
One of the most impressive things about Palaye Royale is frontman Remington Leith’s
distinctive vocals, which remain as solid as they did at the beginning of their career
regardless of whether a song is a ballad or a banger. Palaye Royale have managed to
successfully navigate the difficulties of a genre where many of their contemporaries have disbanded, and instead proven that they are continuing on their upward journey, releasing music that is refreshing and putting on high energy live performances that have earned them a huge fan base worldwide.
The release of ‘Showbiz’ coincides with the announcement of the band’s fifth album ‘Death or Glory’ which will be released on August 30th and an extensive tour including their biggest UK show to date at Wembley Arena in November.
