I mean, they never cease to impress. In contrast to previous releases,
Wunderhorse’s most recent offering, ‘Silver,’ takes a far more gentler approach.
Still, it manages to perfectly convey the essence of the band’s unique heavy bass
and guitar tones as well as Jacob Slater’s haunting and raspy vocals.
The nostalgic feeling that has come to be associated with the band’s lyrical works is
conveyed in ‘Silver.’ Wunderhorse show off a different aspect of their abilities on
this tune, a style reminiscent of softer nineties rock. Though ‘Silver’s’ sound is
comparable to a plethora of classic tunes, it is still very much a Wunderhorse track;
the racing guitar riffs drive this song and give these moving words a fierce fire. This
song boasts outstanding instrumentals; the impassioned instrumental riffs and beats
combined with Slater’s ground-breaking vocals create an infectious hit that is driven
by passion.
Wunderhorse are paving the way for this new wave of phenomenal indie music.
They are changing the trajectory of how we perceive these artists; ‘Silver’ is an
accumulation of unquestionable hard work and determination. It is bringing back the
more subdued grunge sound that we used to associate with the band, a sound
reminiscent of some of their fan favourite songs from their debut album, ‘Cub’. It is
among their best releases to date if I may say so. The level of my admiration for
Slater’s voice on this song is beyond words; his ability to so skilfully alter tone and
pitch is simply remarkable and deserves recognition.
It is a pulsating indie anthem. A track that is made for screaming in your car with the
windows down, fuelled by a burning fire it is destined to allow you to let go of all your
anger and resentment. ‘Silver’ is a song for the ages; this fresh take on
Wunderhorse’s sound is simply outstanding and elevates their already obvious
brilliance to a whole new degree. With a plethora of tour dates scheduled for 2024, along with the fact that the tune is already a cult fan favourite, I am certain we are going to be hearing much more of ‘Silver’ this year.
For fans of Inhaler, Sam Fender and Fontaines D.C. this track is for you!
