Up and coming feel good indie pop band Glossy Boy are back with their latest single ‘LICK’ and it is an upbeat summertime smash!
‘LICK’ is just one of those songs that you can’t listen to only once. Cheerful and frolicsome, it carries a certain vibe that you could easily imagine it fitting into a 2000s coming of age comedy, something like The Inbetweeners or Gavin and Stacey. Glossy Boy describe their music as stuff that brings ‘the house party’ energy, and ‘LICK’ is no exception. The tune opens in an upbeat manner, with a guitar riff akin to the likes of Vampire Weekend. This frivolous, optimistic vibe is continued throughout the entirety of the song, enhanced by the brisk drum rhythms and infectious chorus that you can’t just help but dance to.
The lyrics themselves are light hearted, cheeky and suggestive, and most importantly they perfectly fit the fast paced, summery aura that the rest of the song radiates. This is exacerbated by the inclusion of a horn section (if you know me you know i LOVE a horn section) along with the clipped pronunciation of the lyrics, both of which contribute to making the tune snappy, addictive and easy to listen to.
An element of the song I absolutely adore is the stripped back version of the chorus that occurs near the end of the tune, as the slow down in pace creates excellent dynamics, as well as offering a well needed breather before launching into the explosive ending of the tune.
In short, I love this song, and the band Glossy Boy is a real undiscovered gem, and I urge you all to give them and their new tune a listen.
