24th July 2024: Tune In With Keira

Hey everyone! Welcome to a brand new feature here at Rockstars! I’m Keira and I will be bringing you all the latest music news every Wednesday! Make sure to ‘Tune In’ weekly as I’ll take you through everything that’s caught my eye each week within the industry whether that’s a tour announcement, new music releases or even tracks that I think are worth the listen!

Newton Music Festival: The K’s
The K’s made a very exciting announcement this week: the band are set to play a huge headline homecoming show at Newton Music Festival. Lottery Winners, among other really special guests, will join the band on stage at Newton-Le Willows’ Mesnes Park! With this lineup, it’s sure to be an amazing night! They’re both such fantastic live performers! Stockport band, The Rolling People, as well as performers such as Meduulla, asianblonde, and Malarky are also scheduled to perform. I’m all for homecoming shows, they have an atmosphere that’s unmatched compared to other live performances, and since tickets only cost £20, there’s really no reason not to go!

Angel Of My Dreams: JADE

I’m an indie lover at heart, but when I heard Jade Thirlwall’s first solo track after Little Mix broke up, the 7-year-old fangirl who still lives inside of me screamed. ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ is unlike anything that the music industry has heard in a while, and it’s sure to be a hit simply due to its incredible visual, which perfectly captures the intensity of the song. The former Little Mix member featured in Fontaine D. C’s video for ‘Starburster,’ and her music video carries on in the same vein, even Grian Chatten makes a feature in his neon green tracksuit. You will be singing along to it nonstop; it’s one of those songs that is going to linger in your head!

Nack Nostalgia: Royel Otis

Royel Otis have released a brand new track ‘Nack Nostalgia’ as part of Bose and NME’s C24 mixtape. It is a reminiscent track looking back on their high school days, a much simpler and carefree time with fun filled nights. After performing at this year’s TRNSMT festival, the Australian boys are still killing it. They are a very brilliant team, both sonically and lyrically, and their work deserves much more exposure. They have gained notoriety for their interpretations of classic songs like ‘Linger’ and ‘Murder On The Dancefloor,’ but I want to focus on their original songs as well.

Robin Park Arena: Wigan Set Alight with 5 Nights of Incredible Artists!

Wigan has not seen anything this exciting since Latics won the FA Cup back in 2012! Thousands of music fans flocked to Wigan’s Robin Park Arena over 5 nights of incredible live music from the likes of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Lathums, Richard Ashcroft, and James Arthur! In true Wigan style it lashed it down for Ashcroft’s first homecoming show in over 25 years. The Lathums sold out hometown show was something to behold, an atmosphere like no other and Noel Gallagher had Wigan in the palm of his hand. Rock royalty came and conquered…. oh, and James Arthur was there too.

Maida Vale Sessions: BBC

This week on BBC Radio 6, Fontaines D.C. performed live in session for Steve Lamaq at the Maida Vale Studios. playing tracks from all three of their excellent albums in addition to their most recent hits, ‘Starburster’ and ‘Favourite.’ They are now, in my opinion, one of the best live bands, and their live set only serves to confirm that. Rising indie sensation Nieve Ella also graced the BBC Maida vale studios for Radio 1 with her stunning tracks, ‘Sugarcoated’ and ‘Things We Say.’ A gorgeous rendition of Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck Babe!’ is also performed by her and her incredible band, and it is definitely worth listening to!

Catfish & The Bottlemen Release ASA
It is only took Catfish & The Bottlemen 10 years, but we have finally got a full studio recording of ‘ASA’ released. Recorded before the band’s debut album was even released, it is a track the fanbase has waited a long time for. Van McCann’s return to the music industry has been so highly anticipated and he has not failed to impress so far! My full review of ‘ASA’ is available on our website if you would like to check that out! All I can say is Van McCann it took you long enough!

What Have I Been Listening To This Week?

This year has definitely been treating us to an endless stream of fresh songs! Although it is difficult to choose only a handful of tracks from the past week, here ar a few that really stand out and you should definitely check out!

CRUSH! – Alessi Rose: A sound more akin to Wet Leg’s alternative pop. It is sharp, fierce, and powerful, and it exudes an infectious energy. Everything you could possibly want in a modern pop hit. ‘CRUSH!’ is a hit song that perfectly captures the raw lyricism of Alessi Rose with its forceful drumbeats and deep bass noises. It is the perfect alternative pop track, its enthusiastic, upbeat energy is destined to make this a firm favourite within your playlists! Alessi Rose has just announced a major supporting role alongside Noah Kahan in Belfast as well!

The Real Thing – FEET: The band questions the next phase of a relationship in ‘The Real Thing,’ the first single off their most recent album, which has a bright rhythm beat and a retro-sounding guitar line. Its nostalgic vibe makes this track sit perfectly in those playlists made for reminiscing.

No Direction – The Lathums: Going back to your roots and accepting that the past cannot be changed are the themes of the song. The Wigan lads always feel like they are going full circle, and The Lathums write songs that are lyrically impactful. It is your go-to indie song with amazing vocals and fast guitar riffs!

Glasgow – Pale Waves: It blends elements of modern indie music with sounds reminiscent of The Cure and The Cranberries, vowing to whisk you back to the days of 90s rock. The melody of this tune satisfies the music industry’s desire for a more alternative vibe t rock music. Pale Waves just keep getting better and better!

Can I Be Honest? – Liam Malcolm: This man is single handedly saving Sam
Fender fans from the drought at the moment. With all the saxophones and eighty’s
guitar riffs you could wish for in a track, Liam Malcolm is an artist to keep your eye
out for!

Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next week!
