A beam of acoustic, psychedelic sunshine. Marseille is making a comeback with the much-awaited acoustic single ‘If It Hurts, Don’t Cry.’ The band is making huge strides to surpass the drab post-punk indie scene. It’s essentially Oasis meets Fontaines D.C.—two very different sounds that blend in perfect harmony. including a variety of inspirations, from the unique Merseybeat sounds of the 1960s to the shoegaze and Madchester sounds of the 1990s. This band is full of creativity and originality, and each member’s talent is simply outstanding. Marseille is reviving the music scene with a sound that belies their youth.
An immediate acoustic hit, ‘If It Hurts, Don’t Cry’ is sure to evoke such deep, melancholic feelings solely due to its melody, which is evocative of those gentler, more beloved Beatles songs. The breadth of Marseille’s individual musical ability is demonstrated by this six-minute song. Dreamy melodies, tender acoustic string arrangements, and catchy guitar riffs infuse ‘If It Hurts, Don’t Cry’ with a true sound that will transport you to a completely different place. It isdifficult to become bored with this degree of inventiveness in a song this length; it keeps you captivated for the duration.
It is a beautifully composed track. There are so many influences weaved throughout this track, the beginning really reminds me of some of George Harrison’s classic tracks and towards the end the sound elicits tones reminiscent of the Be Here Now and Heathen Chemistry eras of Oasis. The tune’s sliding guitar riffs, which breathe new life and energy into the initially melancholic and peaceful song, will enchant you. The way Marseille has incorporated their unique guitar tones with this gentler style is truly remarkable. ‘If It Hurts, Don’t Cry’explores a variety of instrumental elements while taking you on a musical journey. This track is the result of a successful experiment that combined a variety of sounds to produce a masterfully composed final product.
In broad terms, Marseille’s ‘If It Hurts, Don’t Cry’ is a true masterwork. This is, dare I say it, their best piece to date. Combining a variety of sounds to produce an arrangement that is so expertly composed. For fans of The Beatles, Stone Roses, Oasis, and Fontaines D.C this track is for you!
