Indie rock has always been a genre that thrives on raw emotion, unfiltered energy, and unapologetic passion. In their latest release, Concrete Club embodies all these elements and more with their new track ‘Jackie Don’t Mind’. From the pounding drums to the searing guitar riffs, this song is a whirlwind of unbridled fervour and magnetic charisma.
‘Jackie Don’t Mind’ is a fantastic indie rock song by the band Concrete Club. The song immediately grabs your attention with its infectious guitar riffs and driving rhythm, opening on an old school guitar riff that feels like an old Chuck Berry, or at least a fifties rock and roll track, that then enters into a catchy and upbeat rock anthem . The lead singer’s distinctive vocals add a layer of raw emotion to the track, and the introspective lyrics create a strong connection with the listener. The lyrics of this tune seem to describe a night in which you reunite with an old flame; “You seem to only obsess, about that one time you almost had sex with her” almost creating an obsession with this woman; being backed up by ‘Well the older you get, the more you think about the last time you said, I think I love you more than love itself’; this presentation of love and lust being caught between each other is interesting as many people seem to mistake the former for the latter leaving a million ‘what ifs?…’ to plague us.
The song has an anthemic quality that makes it perfect for blasting through the speakers on a road trip or at a live concert. ‘Jackie Don’t Mind’ showcases the band’s talent for crafting memorable melodies and delivering a high-energy performance. It’s a must-listen for any indie rock enthusiast.
As good as this song is it sounds like something we’ve heard before, which is not necessarily a bad thing but it feels akin to 2006 Kaiser Chiefs/ The Fratellis or something made for the Gavin and Stacey soundtrack. But it’s this familiarity that makes it enjoyable; it’s nostalgic to us as its audience.
This is a song for both fans and new listeners; it’s something that grabs your attention right away and serves as a reminder of older music; which is why there is no doubt that the band are receiving acclaim from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Ian Brown and Andy Dunlop; thus enticing us for more exciting things from the band.
