Toby TomTom is an alternative artist who refuses to conform to standard genre labels and boundaries, instead deciding to create a refreshingly original sound that crosses borders and defies the limits of musical categorisations. With a lifetime of experience within music and countless inspirations to draw on, Toby TomTom is no stranger to the world of music. Delving once more into his rich and diverse soundscape Toby TomTom has recently released his latest single ‘23’.
Driving from the start with dynamically rhythmic percussion alongside beautifully warm and rich organs, ‘23’ creates a characterful core that provides Toby with the perfect base for his fabulously charismatic Bowie-esque vocals. These engaging vocals act as the vessel for some brilliantly thought-provoking lyricism that plunge into the ideas of death and the afterlife as he tells the story of a woman who saw signs from the other side.
Overflowing with the abundance of influences Toby has collected over the years, ‘23’ conjures an incredibly unique soundscape while managing to keep notes of warm familiarity as it winds through its genre-bending runtime of just over 4 minutes. With soaring guitar riffs, creative electronic elements and a cameo from Shake Dizzy, ‘23’ isn’t shy of its contrasting components while still staying true to Toby’s core beginnings with it’s classic sounding piano parts. While the creative nature of ‘23’ means it won’t be a song for everyone, its abundantly clear that Toby TomTom has imbued an immense amount of love for music into this track. The track oozes with the passion that so clearly exists within Toby and it’s certainly one worth checking out.
