Following a stellar supporting performance in Hyde Park with the legendary Stevie Nicks, Stevie Bill is back with a brand-new song entitled ‘Lalala,’ poised to alter the course of pop rock music once again.
Stevie Bill owes a lot of her inspirations to 2000s female pop performers like Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears. ‘Lalala’ definitely reflects her influences from the 2000s; the vocals in the first section are reminiscent of Kylie Minogue’s classic track ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.’ Her compositions strike a chord with her contemporaries due to their ability to convey stories of youthful errors, turbulent relationships, and ambition.
From ‘Hahaha’ to ‘Lalala,’ Stevie Bill contributes her breath-taking voice to these popular tunes. The carefree energy of ‘Lalala’ embodies the very best of girlhood—the free-spirited quality we all aspire to possess. This track that the Dutch singer-songwriter created is ideal for a coming-of-age movie and could undoubtedly fit amongst some of the best soundtracks out there. What I adore about Stevie Bill’s songs is the way in which she creates something truly unique by fusing lively, energetic guitar riffs with honest, unvarnished lyrics.
The instrumentals on this song are worth mentioning on their own due to how they harmoniously complement Stevie Bill’s vocals. The guitar riffs begin slowly and steadily, letting the listener concentrate on Bill’s unique vocals, then they explode into life, evoking the sound of that particular pop rock scene from the 2000s. Your head will be spinning with the upbeat, authentic chorus of ‘Lalala,’ which has such a captivating energy. With her words, Stevie Bill eloquently conveys the innocence and relatability of girlhood to an audience that will connect with her work on a deep level.
I can only say one thing about this song: it’s an absolute banger! ‘Lalala’ is made for those nights in your bedroom, screaming down a hairbrush, playing air guitar for the imaginary crowd of 50,000 in front of you. At the time of writing this review, the track hasn’t even been out for 12 hours and it’s already one of my favourite releases of 2024 so far.
