British Australian singer Rae Charlea (kar-lee-ah) has released her latest single ‘Charm Outta Boredom’, following the success of her previous release ‘He’s Just A Boy’.
‘Charm Outta Boredom’ follows the same storyline of ‘He’s Just A Boy’, but whereas the previous release was a very lighthearted song that pokes fun at falling for someone so quickly, ‘Charm Outta Boredom’ takes us on a journey through this flirtatious relationship and how the man led her on.
Full of moody guitars, rippling drum rhythms and atmospheric sound effects, this tune is a perfect mix of romance and angst. With vocals similar to icons such as Hayley Williams and Clairo, ‘Charm Outta Boredom’ is one of those songs that you can imagine appearing on the soundtrack of twilight or even gilmore girls, as, while it is full of sadness and grit, there is something so beautifully soft and comforting, like your eardrums are being hugged.
‘Charm Outta Boredom’ is also a real milestone for the singer, as it is the first song she has ever cowritten. Charlea was joined by songwriter and bassist Seán Julian, who assisted in writing the instrumental. Speaking on his creation process, Julian commented that ‘like a lot of my ideas this one came very quickly to me. I turned to my bass after an argument with a close friend. I was messing around with chords on the bass with my beloved chorus effect and that main riff really stood out to me. The rest of the song was written on bass in the space of 10-15 minutes and just on the bass alone I knew I was onto something. I sent it to Rae and once she sent back the first draft of her vocals, I thought it fit the vibe I was going for perfectly’. When listening to this song, you can really feel the anger and pain from the vocals and the instrumental, showing how incredibly talented both Charlea and Julian are at channeling their raw emotions into their craft.
