After selling out their biggest London headline show to date at Lafayette earlier this year, Hertfordshire band Lock-In have come to remind you why they have been dubbed ‘the ones to watch’ with their newest release ‘Sun Kiss’.
‘Sun Kiss’ can only be described as a ‘feel good’ anthem, opening light heartedly with a rousing piano sequence and delicate guitar riff, before exploding into the main instrumental of the tune, which just oozes sunlight. Speaking about the song, lead vocalist Benjy commented that ‘We wanted ‘Sun Kiss’ to be a musical time machine. It’s all about capturing that nostalgic feeling of summer, where every moment feels like it’s bathed in golden light, and every memory is wrapped in the warmth of good times with friends. We hope this song brings listeners back to their own sun-kissed memories.’ Well, as a listener and now avid fan of Lock-In, I can wholeheartedly say that ‘Sun Kiss’ does everything the band wished it would achieve.
The heartfelt lyrics contained in this track, such as ‘Do you wanna? Do you wanna get out? Sun Kiss baby, summertime we’re never in doubt’ create a certain warmth that permeates the entire tune, almost as if the sun really is shining down, warming both your midn, body and spirit. Furthermore, the band’s clever blend of melodic guitar, pulsating rhythmic drive and carefully placed instrumental decorations really lends to this feeling of familiarity that you get from listening to this tune. It is reminiscent of peak indie bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and Peace, but with their own ‘Lock-In’ twist, that makes this track a perfect blend of nostalgia and modernity.
Still in their early twenties, Lock-In have won early attention from Radio 6, BBC Music Introducing, Radio X and Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds’, as well as gathering a cult following of loyal fans that seems to be growing by the minute. This may be the first time you have ever heard of Lock-In, or maybe it’s not, but I can absolutely guarantee that it certainly won’t be the last. Stream the anthem of the summer ‘Sun Kiss’ Below!
