Every now and then, an absolute gem appears on the Rockstars radar (never used that term before, probably never will again) and we just have to write about it. Today is one of those days as ‘kiss like me’ has just been released.
The latest track to come from Piper Connolly, a thirteen year-old Phoenix native who is taking the game by storm. Now, lets not get it twisted, this song is fantastic in its own right and the fact Piper is only thirteen only adds to the brilliance of this track, so lets discuss it shall we.
When it comes to American pop/alternative rock tunes, your mind would probably turn to the likes of Avril Lavigne and a more modern reference would be Olivia Rodrigo, and those influences are definitely on show in this track. ‘kiss like me’ has swagger, it has the arrogance you’d expect from this genre, and it just comes across so well.
You barely have time to breathe. From the off, the drum beat is guiding you and is clearly designed to get you moving your feet and bopping your head. This is full of energy and I challenge anyone to listen without wanting to move your body. The song is ultimately a story of youthful longing and romance, and this track would not be out of place in a teenage rom-com that’s for sure.
Piper’s vocal performance in this track is also very impressive. She has that youthful exuberance you’d expect, and I can see the future being extremely possitive for her. With over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, that number is only going to rise so if I were you, I’d join the Piper Connolly bandwagon early!
