Made up of Holly Carter, Lauren Cooper, and Lexi Clark, BERRIES is a psychedelic rock trio. The group released its debut album, ‘How We Function,’ to great acclaim in 2022, twirling optimistic lyrics about overcoming mental health struggles around off-kilter garage rock songs. Louder Than War gave the album four out of five stars, calling it “a really well put together debut album that rocks hard and gets its message across succinctly, with a bristling beat and an intelligence that it takes some bands a few albums to achieve.” The album received praise from artists like Record Collector, The List, and The Crack. Additionally, the band played a thrilling Radio X Session on John Kennedy’s program.
The band’s latest single, ‘Watching Wax,’ marks a lethal comeback for the London group with its scribbled-out rapid guitar licks, spidery bass lines, and poisonous lyrical stings. In ‘Watching Wax,’ BERRIES reflects on the restlessness of anxiety and the persistent shadow it may throw over our daily lives. It is dripping with a feverish intensity and jam-packed with scattergun hooks to match.
Although the band has never shied away from tough topics like issues with mental health or brutally honest admissions, the track finds them weaponizing these themes into a fearlessly forceful tune that draw strength from darkness. It’s a very sincere song. The trio’s remarkable ability to capture the unique punk rock sound in these honest and poignant lyrics is a testament to their musical prowess.
This is the lead single from the band’s latest self-titled album which is set for release on the 18th of October this year. Speaking on the new album the band stated: ‘This album is about battling intrusive thoughts and finding contentment in your day, however big or small those moments are. It’s a journey to finding your own space and being comfortable in it. We haven’t held back with this album – it’s raw, honest, and a true reflection of BERRIES.’
