14th August 2024: Tune In With Keira

Happy Wednesday everyone! It has been a hectic week! With album and EP announcements everywhere, you look! Luckily, I’m here to catch you up on all the latest music news from across the globe, so you don’t have to worry about what you missed this week!

Siobhán Winifred: ‘Don’t Do Well Alone’ Debut EP

Everyone should be aware of the artist Siobhán Winifred! She is a rising alt-pop singer who was born and raised in the Dorset countryside and currently resides in London. Siobhán was influenced by the music of Alex Turner, Leonard Cohen, and Rufus Wainwright at a young age. The combination of Siobhán’s emotional lyrics, electronic beats, and Brit-indie rock guitars aims for that perfect place where you can dance and cry at the same moment.

Winifred has recently announced her debut EP ‘Don’t Do Well Alone’, which is set for release on the 27th of September. The title track was released alongside the announcement as well as the track list. The EP is set to feature her deeply moving tracks ‘lungs’ as well as the much loved ‘killers’ which is set to feature a surprise artist as well! The EP is now available to pre save and pre order.

Nieve Ella: ‘Watch It Ache and Bleed’ Brand New 8 Track EP Announced

On October 17th, singer-songwriter Nieve Ella will release her much awaited eight-track EP, ‘Watch It Ache And Bleed’. The project is an unvarnished investigation of feminine fury and despair. The EP is a reflection of her path of self-discovery and self-worth, with influences ranging from Wolf Alice’s Blue Weekend to Lizzy McAlpine’s Older and Harry Styles’ HS1.

I’m so excited about this EP that words cannot explain! Anyone who knows me is aware of my immense love for Nieve Ella’s music! Her ability to turn poignant, meaningful lyrics into heartfelt indie songs is captivating! We’ve been waiting far too long for this song to appear on our streaming platforms, but Nieve Ella also hinted that ‘Ganni Top (She Gets What She Needs)’ is almost here! (The wait will be so worth it, I promise!)

‘Paul McCartney and Wings – One Hand Clapping’ set to hit the big screen!

It was revealed this week that fans will get the opportunity to travel back in time to 1974 and experience the thrill of Wings – One Hand Clapping with Paul McCartney. An exclusive cinema event featuring a riveting film that explores their legendary recording session at Abbey Road Studios and was captured on video tape to capture the style and atmosphere of the era will debut on the 26th of September this year! This behind-the-scenes look explores the creation of the highly renowned One Hand Clapping record and includes archival footage, band interviews, artistic insights, and more.

The Royston Club – ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows’

Releasing their latest single, ‘The Patch Where Nothing Grows,’ The Royston Club is back in the music business. The Royston Club is quickly rising to the top of the indie-rock world. After their debut single “Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars” reached the top 20 on the UK Official Album Chart, the Welsh foursome have been increasingly successful. They have sold out KOKO, performed to thousands of people in three sets at Glastonbury, and headlined the biggest show to ever take place in their hometown of Wrexham.

A full review of the track is now available on the website! Let’s just say, I adore this track and I’m sure you’ll be able to tell that from the review!

Acts You Need To See At Reading & Leeds:

swim school – swim school’s wide-ranging sounds, which span from 90s grunge to contemporary indie and dream-pop, are influenced by their Edinburgh heritage. The three-piece group had experienced an incredible 2023, selling out festival stages, opening for big names like Pixies, Lovejoy, and Inhaler, and making their festival debut at Glasgow’s TRNSMT event. With the release of their mixtape EP ‘Seeing It Now’ in April and their first headline tour at the beginning of the year, this year has been even better. One of the greatest frontwomen out there at the moment is Alice Johnson; I highly suggest checking them out!

Alessi Rose – 2024 is the ideal year for Alessi Rose’s humorous and candid pop music, following the revival of the genre with artists like Billie Eilish and Charli XCX. You might have to fight your way through her horde of admirers that are set to pour onto the BBC Introducing Stage – I wouldn’t be surprised that if by the end of her performance, their numbers have doubled, she is simply incredible. ‘rumination as ritual’, her debut EP, was published this year and it’s amazing! If you enjoy the music of artists like Chappell Roan or Gracie Abrams, you should absolutely check her out!

Corella – Stereotypical phrases related to up-and-coming musicians are frequently used carelessly. But using them to describe the flawless ascent of Manchester’s Corella seems more than appropriate. They are an indie rock group that has gained popularity on the live circuit by playing in various cities all across the country. They’ve perfected their live performances, their main stage set isn’t one you’re going to want to miss!

Kneecap – It’s possible that Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí have never been more well-known in Irish music as they are now! Their voice is one that screams from the far too often impoverished parts of Northern Ireland, speaking a language that is considerably neglected, fusing Irish with English, humour with politically concerned songs, and realism with absurdity. It makes for sufficiently riveting stuff. Their incredible ascent appears to have no end in sight, as seen by their fully booked US and UK tours and their ambitious future plans. You won’t want to miss them at this year’s Reading & Leeds, whether you can comprehend half of what they’re saying or not!

Only The Poets – As a rising band, Only The Poets have already created an absurd amount of success for themselves; they are certainly worth keeping an eye and ear out for. They have made lengthy tours in Europe and the United Kingdom. Only The Poets, were founded and centred in Reading, their music highlights the charm and commitment of Tommy Longhurst, Andy (Roo) Burge, Clem Cherry, and Marcus Yates. This year’s Festival Republic Stage will be graced by the indie pop band!

What Have I Been Listening To This Week?

Winter In The Sun (Darklands Version) – Fontaines D.C. – This song is incredibly underappreciated for a band with such enormous popularity. On this tune, Grian Chatten’s vocals sound more genuine and raw than they have ever done. This 2018 release is a must-listen for every fan of Dogrel!

Sidetrack – Catfish & The Bottlemen – This song has a certain quality that makes it really catchy, almost like it contains something addictive! This song’s lyrics are really well done; Van McCann’s voice perfectly capture the song’s sense of desperation and fury. Plus I’d take any excuse to scream the lyrics “For all I know I always tried, to meet you A.S.A.P. why?”

Girl – Stereophonics – Taken from the band’s incredible album ‘Language.Sex.Violence.Other?’, this track is the ultimate guitar anthem. Kelly Jones’ vocals are simply outstanding on this track and paired with the racing guitar riffs and crashing drum beats, its the perfect track to head bang to!

No Hard Feelings – Wolf Alice – It’s a timeless, gorgeous ballad, definitely one of those unique songs that stays with you. With its extremely engaging lyrics, I really enjoy how the track almost entirely uses the bass as a melodic instrument. They did an excellent job of filling this very specific niche.

Epilogue – Wunderhorse – I love how this track tricks you into thinking its a soft ballad in its opening before Jacob Slater’s distinctive vocals burst into life. It feels like Kurt Cobain’s resurrection bringing that punk rock back to the mainstream music scene.
