Words: Dan Smith
In what can only be described as a dramatic turn of events, it appears, for the time being anyway, that Noel and Liam have put aside their differences and we are finally going to have an Oasis reunion on our hands.
The announcement comes off the back of several teasing tweets from a Liam Gallagher and fans have gone into meltdown over the reincarnation of one of the greatest rock & roll bands of all time.
So this article is going to consider how the reunion will look, discuss any issues that may arise and ultimately dismiss some of the criticism which is sure to be touted on social media. I hope you enjoy!
WILL THE REUNION WORK?
It has been well documented that Liam and Noel do not get on. There very public spats were never not on the front pages, so you do wonder what has gone on behind the scenes for them to put their differences to one side and to reunite.
When you consider that the Manchester Arena bombing wasn’t enough to bring the brothers back together, Boneheads cancer wasn’t and another Knebworth show couldn’t, something drastic must have happened. Could it be the divorce of Noel Gallagher and Sara MacDonald, in which Noel has supposedly been fleeced of £20 million?

So would a reunion actually work? Obviously we won’t know until it happens, but we can of course speculate, so indulge me for a moment.
Noel and Liam have both had successful solo careers, and their styles no longer compliment each other. Noel now favouring a more stripped back, acoustic sound and Liam still driving that rock n’ roll, would this be the first obstacle?
Secondly, one of the main issues which led to the breakup was Noel taking Liams spotlight. After being the main man in High Flying Birds, would Noel be willing to take a step back and allow Liam to be the frontman once more?
Thirdly, how would they decide which songs make up the setlist? They both play songs completely differently these days, most notably ‘Live Forever’ and with both Gallagher brothers having inflated egos, I just can’t see either one backing down.
There are so many potential obstacles which could hinder an already fragile relationship, so until they are on stage performing, I would be so worried that it could happen, even if they do announce it.
However, if both Liam and Noel are willing to put fans first, and finally reunite, it could be special. Quite possibly, the biggest gig of our lifetime. Something that would go down in history. We’ll see.
Setlist Musts
So I’d just like to list off some musts in the setlist.
Off the bat, they need to open with ‘Acquiesce’. This would be the ultimate show of them putting aside their history and being back to their best. It showcases the best of both Noel and Liam, so it has to be in there and I’d open with it.
