Tom A. Smith and Swim School have collaborated on a new, intimate song. After Smith’s last song, ‘Get Me Started,’ comes ‘I Don’t Want You To Have To Remember Me For Longer Than You Ever Knew Me,’ featuring Alice Johnson of Swim School’s stunning vocals.
This song keeps up the kind and creative spirit for which he has already established a solid reputation. He’s still a genuine pioneer today, with its inviting and warm soundscapes matched by certain spectacular hooks throughout. From the very beginning, it is captivating and enticing, with Tom and Swim School vocalist Alice Johnson’s evident skill shining through.
From a thematic perspective, the song delves deeply into a story that seems all too familiar in today’s world: people drift apart and leave behind only memories of one another. Tom and Alice use their vocal chemistry to create an intense plea to one another to stop that from happening. Tom’s rasping vocals are what make his tracks so distinctive, but paired alongside Johnson’s soft, ethereal vocals create something truly extraordinary.
Each performer gets to shine and glow in a powerful and resonant fashion here, and the connection between their vocals and the impassioned nature of the track combine for some extremely passionate and devastating moments.
Alice’s vocals enhance the intensity of the subtly dramatic chorus and add some lovely complexity to the harmonies. This track is only made more dominant with the inclusion of a female co-harmony. Her wonderful vocals, which complement Smith’s so brilliantly, are layered upon layered, elevating the song to a whole new level.
