The Rolling People have shown a remarkable talent for creating music that seems both timeless and current since their founding. In addition to being their first release, their debut EP, ‘Before It’s Gone’, is a demonstration of their promise and aspirations. They have gone from strength to strength in recent years, dominating the indie music market and earning a reputation for exuberant live shows and equally wild audiences.
The EP’s opening track, ‘I’ll Be There,’ has The Rolling People declare their existence to the indie world with a passion that is both thrilling and genuine. The band transform a bass line into a full-fledged indie anthem, the track contains a contagious and infectious spirit. ‘I’ll Be There’ embodies the band’s drive to always improve. Even the most stoic of listeners will be tapping their feet when they hear this track, which is a heart-pounding rush of excitement.
One of my personal favourites from this EP is ‘Grateful For Nothing.‘ With its glitzy guitars and unrelenting pace, it completely changes the mood of the EP. Both live audiences and anyone jamming out at home will find it to be ideally crafted to motivate them. The theme of the song is rather clear: accepting criticism and taking charge of one’s own fate. This song perfectly captures the actual spirit of the North with its rasping vocals. They’re destined to be the next successful Manchester act.
The band continues to hone their style on the title tune ‘Before It’s Gone,’ striking a balance between desperation and optimism. The song’s simple arrangement hides a depth that shows their increasing self-assurance and capacity to play to each other’s advantages. Conversely, the unbridled intensity of ‘The Thief’ begins with abrasive guitar lines and ferocious lyrics that scrutinise the structures of authority.
The Rolling People’s variety is displayed for all to see in ‘No Place To Be.’ The song demonstrates their ability to experiment and evoke a range of emotions inside a singular track. It does this by blending their post-punk influences with their instantly recognisable indie rock sound.
‘Better Man (Acoustic),‘ a beloved song by fans of the band, closes the EP. It is both a reworked rendition that highlights the band’s development since the initial recording and a sincere nod to their fans. It’s a suitable ode to their followers and an indicator of their capacity to grow while remaining loyal to their origins.
‘Before It’s Gone’ portends greater heights for The Rolling People in the decades to come. The band’s tireless work ethic has paid off, creating a debut EP that has set the bar high for anything set to follow.
