Navy have released an infectious new track titled ‘Something You Wanna Say,’ following in the footsteps of bands like Inhaler and Radiohead with its indie vibe. The song captures everything I admire about new indie bands, exploring themes of heartbreak and desire from a 20-something perspective, shedding light on the complexities of love in today’s world. It delves into the stages of relationships and the fear of rejection whilst offering the promise of love set against a catchy guitar riff.
Switching things up from their previous singles, ‘Easy’ and ‘Take Me There’ this new track introduces similar themes of yearning and insecurity however adopts a more uptempo vibe towards the band’s storytelling. As the song progresses, it transitions into a bridge that introduces a slightly darker, more introspective tone. The music softens, showcasing a haunting vulnerability. This moment is a powerful reminder of the depth beneath seemingly straightforward conversations.
This is a track I have found myself repeating continuously throughout the past week or so; it feels like leopard print and a new leather jacket, a night out and bumping into a situationship. The line that solidified this song onto a playlist for me was ‘Even though you come with a bitter price I’d surrender to you anytime’ This sums up the vibe of the song perfectly, dancing around a partner that you know isn’t going to causes you anything but stress yet still yearning for them all the same.
‘Something You Wanna Say’ is a standout addition to Navy’s expanding discography. It not only highlights their musical talent but also their ability to handle sensitive themes with grace and honesty. The track encourages authenticity, urging both the band and its listeners to embrace the discomfort of vulnerability, and I personally can’t wait to hear what the band have in store for us in the future.
