Coming from his upcoming EP, Michael Gallagher has graced us with his new track ‘Everybody (Wants To Be Somebody)’, which perfectly captures the feeling of realising the person you love, loves someone else and has moved on from you. For me, this song seems to have a nostalgic air to it, listening to it I seemed to imagine it being added to a sort of early-mid 2000s sitcom soundtrack, joining the likes of The Kooks and Scouting For Girls (which if you know me, you know how much of a compliment this is).
This nostalgic track seems to encapsulate the feeling of longing and unrequited loving that so many of us seem to deal with within our lives, with it the sense of yearning for better or (more than likely) for worse being stuck on the same person, even if it didn’t end in the best way.
The song’s catchy guitar riffs and melody seem to distract the listener from the pretty sad theme, which I feel was a brilliant and intentional move from Gallagher, by distracting the listener from the heartbreak it almost seems like this story is going to end positively, however really analysing the lyrics it is clear that the subject has ‘found love in a different postcode’.
This song perfectly captures the universal longing for companionship, evoking a sense of relatability that makes it a standout track. The emotional depth and resonance of ‘Somebody Who Needs Somebody’ set the stage for what promises to be an exceptional EP from Gallagher. With its soulful melody and heartfelt lyrics, the song creates a sense of anticipation and excitement for the upcoming release, leaving listeners eager to experience more of Gallagher’s musical talent and storytelling prowess.
