Post Punk band Yutaniii have released their fourth song today titled ‘All Your Friends Are F*cking Boring’, and it is a surefire hit.
Hailing from Leeds, the fivesome, with their thousands of pounds of debt, buckets of angst and satisfaction for the mundane, are here to bring the soul of punk to the 21st century. With angular guitars, floor filling bass and thrashing drums, Yutaniii’s blend of 2000s euro-pop with elements of 70s classic punk inspired by the likes of the Sex Pistols, creates an obscenely unique sound that completely reimagines the alternative rock genre.
Their latest release, ‘All Your Friends Are F*cking Boring’ is an aggressive assault on the ear drums, for all the right reasons. Drawing influences from not just punk but also genres such as Numetal and Crank Wave, Yutaniii are clearly switching their focus to a new era of songwriting, transforming the band to a far more menacing beast of a sound machine. While the track sounds aggressive and brutal, taking a deeper look past the roaring curtain of sound exposes the tender depths of Yutaniii. Using humorous lyrics to poke fun at a certain friend of a friend, front man Will leads the assault on the all-too-common feeling of hating your friend’s friends. What is particularly effective is the chorus segments, where Will is joined by the rest of the band on an almost football chant like refrain. I love this element as not only does it highlight the idea of the group being a united front, but it also really heightens the brutal soundscape of heart thumping drums and intense guitars that has been building in the verses.
As an avid punk fan who often feels like modern day attempts at the genre often fall flat, Yutaniii have absolutely hit the nail on the head with this one. Stream ‘All Your Friends Are F*cking Boring’ now, you will not be disappointed.
