This Manchester-born band is making a significant impact on the city’s rich musical legacy with their latest track ‘Maggie’. The beautiful Post Punk track serves as a heartfelt tribute to vocalist Ben Johnsoon’s grandmother, Maggie. The emotional depth of the song reflects the strong bond between Ben and his grandmother, shining through his powerful vocals and intimate lyrics, ‘It’s a moral compass I took from you’.
The band’s incredible guitar riffs further amplify the genuine emotion of this heartfelt song. Each member of the band seamlessly integrates into the emotional context of the song, creating a cohesive and harmonious sound that perfectly complements Johnson’s poignant storytelling. The synergy between the band members adds depth and richness to the music, enhancing the overall impact of the song.
When speaking on the song guitarist Jamie Halliday stated that ‘the song came from a jam session between myself and Joe (drums). It started out with this rhythmic loop on the guitar and he started to sing what would become the backing vocals and melody line with it. It was a special moment where we looked at each other and went ‘wow’ ‘. And Wow it is, this incredible track is truly a labour of love for the band and it really shows when you listen to it, each member of the band understands the love that has gone into it, which makes it even more amazing to listen to.
This a beautiful song that really reflects love and loss, so please give it a listen, especially if you’re a fan of Wunderhorse and The Royston Club.
