Words: Ruby Corrigan
Antrim’s hottest musical offering Red Eye Pariah have launched their final track of this year titled ‘Words’, which forms the fourth and final part of their highly anticipated EP ‘Tequila King.’ This release is the band’s second EP, after only forming as a band in April 2021.
After releasing three other singles this year that have had airplay on RTE and BBC Radio ulster, as well as gaining recognition from Radio X’s John Kennedy, along with doing a small and successful tour of the UK, it is undeniable that Red Eye Pariah have had an absolutely meteoric rise in the British and Irish music scenes, and it is clear why. When speaking about the formation of the EP, the band shared that ‘ they wanted to tell a story, but give everyone the opportunity to decide which character they are and how they fit into it. All our music is based on experiences because it’s important that our art reflects our reality.’ This sentiment is certainly conveyed in the collection of songs, as each one is filled with so much individuality and personality, but are still linked together by Red Eye Pariah’s core, post punk sound.
The band’s newest addition to their repertoire, ‘Words’, is no exception to their brilliant balance of complex lyrical wordplay and musical prowess. Speaking about this song, the bands noted that they wanted it to be a ‘self reflective piece that explores situations around what we have described as toxic confidence’ – and they certainly achieve this. The instrumentals are haunting, with soaring guitar riffs, heart thumping bass lines that sink deep into your stomach and thrashing drums rhythms. This is paired with deep, introspective lyrics that reflect on how it feels to be stuck in a toxic friendship with someone who always tries to undermine you.
The band are set to do a tour of Ireland beginning next week in Belfast’s very own Union Bar. TIckets are selling fast, so make sure to grab them while you can!
In short, Red Eye Pariah are absolutely blazing through 2024, make sure to hop on the bandwagon now before it’s too late!
