After a killer release in the height of summer 2024 with their single ‘LICK’, indie pop-rock band Glossy Boy have released a brand new tune today, and it is exposing a side of the band we have never seen before.
Having grown up on noughties indie classics, Glossy Boy describe their sound as an infusion of ‘Red’ era Taylor Swift hooks with the shimmering funk of Paul Simon, which ultimately creates an instantly memorable ‘glossy’ sound, that theri growing fan base simply cannot get enough of. As mentioned previously, their last release ‘LICK’, was a glittering summer anthem that just oozed sunlight, yet their latest tune ‘Iguana’, does a complete 360 on this, as the energetic trio explores a darker, grittier style to their music. Immediately, I am captivated by the title of ‘Iguana’, a cold blooded creature, that the band uses to describe the intensity of a cold blooded and dangerous lover. This solid use of metaphor from the get go is something I really love to see from new bands, as it perfectly highlights their distinctive creativity.
Yet, while a catchy title is all well and good, what is most important is the substance of the tune, and trust me it is bountiful. Inspired by the likes of Jack White, The Hunna and the grittier side of the 1975, ‘Iguana’ is both erratic yet somehow sexy. With an enthralling combination of powerful bass riffs, guitars drenched in reverb, driving percussion and brooding vocals, the tune is completely addictive and irresistibly thrilling. Gaining airplay on BBC Introducing in The West and receiving a great reception, I can confidently say that ‘Iguana’ is Glossy Boy’s best song to date and is certainly going to take them far in their music career.
