After the release of their newest album ‘Happenings’ Kasabian announced a 4 date UK tour with dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester. This was boosted even more by the fact that they were supported by The Streets which was a great booking with a similar fanbase attracting even more people to the tour.
On the third date of this tour, it was time for them to play in London’s biggest arena The O2, this was kicked off by a very interactive performance from The Streets to get the crowd warmed up with frontman Mike Skinner spending a majority of the performance within the crowd.
It was nearly time for Kasabian to enter the stage with one of the most well-known singalongs ‘Hey Jude’ playing through the speakers which created a great atmosphere throughout the crowd. After a short cinematic played on the screens Sergio entered the stage opening with one of their biggest hits from the newest album ‘Call’, on queue with the drop, the curtain was dropped to reveal the rest of the band behind. As the set went on Sergio done a great job at continuing to keep the atmosphere at a high level all the way until the end with a great amount of crowd involvement helping to do this. The rest of the 21 song set was full of a mixture of all of their older classics as well as some of their newer songs from ‘Happenings’.
A B-Stage was also used during the performance with frontman Sergio appearing on a raised platform in the middle of the crowd twice during the set for both ‘STARGAZR’ and for a section of ‘L.S.F’ which was also a great way of keeping the back half of the crowd involved.
As always, the band finished off with their biggest hit ‘Fire’ and what an incredible experience this was to see with it being arguably one of the best live performed songs. Time after time, Kasabian never fail to make this a special moment at each of their shows. Despite some big changes in the last 5 years with the introduction of Sergio becoming the frontman of the band, Kasabian are still in top form and the opportunities for them are endless.
What’s next for Kasabian? Could we be seeing even more music or a new album released?
More tour dates? Who knows but it is something we will all be watching very closely.
