Many phenomenal bands and artists have called Stockport home over the years, Overdrive are the next major emerging talent to rise from the Manchester suburb. Their second single ‘Leech’ explores the dark side of love and the feelings one feels when they escape.
By fusing hard alternative rock with indie elements, they have produced a sound that is far darker than anything else coming out of Manchester’s music scene. ‘Leech’ has a post-rock feel, alternating between a guitar line that continually evolves and flowing freely between various chord progressions and this hefty, catchy, and rigidly repeated theme. The already dramatic tone is enhanced by the quite dark vocals.
Overdrive is well on their way to revitalising darker rock music with a sound and style reminiscent of early Nirvana songs. Their confident demeanour infuses their songs, which is impressive for a band that is only getting started. In the upcoming years, the band is expected to have a significant impact on the alternative rock landscape.
In celebration of the release of ‘Leech’, Overdrive will be playing four shows across the North West. Starting at Retro in Manchester to the band’s debut in Liverpool at The Jacaranda . In February they’re back in Manchester with a performance at Aatma and finally finishing the mini tour on a homecoming Stockport show at Spinning Top.
