Words: Keira Knox
LONG ISLAND, located in Huddersfield, possesses a distinct sound courtesy to its lively indie production, powerful pop guitars, and poignant lyrics. Their most recent offering has a far more sentimental stance. The emotional indie ballad ‘fragile’ tells a personal tale of life’s frailty and the need of seizing every moment because you never know when it will end.
Their unique style is shaped by a mashup of their many influences, which includes artists like Sea Girls, PVRIS, and The 1975. The vocals on the track are breath-taking; they perfectly convey the anguish that the words describe. Similar to Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers, ‘fragile’ has that indie-folk vibe that has been extremely alluring as of late.
The band’s intensely emotive lyrical style is what truly sets them apart. LONG ISLAND’s lyrics effectively convey the heartbreakingly vulnerable moments in life and turn them into incredibly relatable melodies. While the acoustic guitar is the main focus of the song, the production, electronic instrumentation, and atmospheric melodies all contribute to the anxious atmosphere.
LONG ISLAND are set to take the indie scene by storm with ‘fragile’. The band are set to grace the stage at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds as part of This Feeling’s ‘Big in 2025’.
