Shape Of Water Reveal Their Intimate New Track – ‘Naked’ Review

Words: Emily Robbins

Shape Of Water are continuing to push music boundaries with their infectious new release, ‘Naked’.

Following a 2015 relocation to Manchester Rox Capriotti and Luca Falco formed electronic-rock band Shape Of Water. Despite forming in 2018, they remain one of the most exciting acts on the scene, receiving acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, BBC Introducing, and Classic Rock Magazine; having been described as “phenomenal” and “potentially huge”.

Over the last 10 months, Shape of Water have been relentlessly releasing music ahead of their third studio album, set for release in 2025. Among these, we have seen them further test the boundaries of their sound with their heaviest release to date: ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ alongside a groovy cover of The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. Today however, we bring you ‘Naked’, a track which explores themes of intimacy and vulnerability as well as being their first original release since their second album ‘Amor Fati’ in 2022.

Having been released in 2024, ‘Naked’ begins slowly with an enticing melody accompanied by haunting vocals. But, the track quickly erupts into rolling riffs and tantalising percussion, sure to keep a crowd bouncing. The song brings a perfect combination of both upbeat and melancholic instrumentals alongside evocative lyrics: “My words trembling on my tongue” highlights the intense seductiveness intended on the ‘Naked’, making you want to flick on the repeat button and dive into the band’s wider discography.

Since forming, the duo have racked up over 9,000 monthly Spotify listeners through a mix of catchy releases, live promotion, and even adapting to virtual shows during the pandemic. Their creative spark and dedication moves well beyond just their music, designing all of their artwork and promotional visuals themselves. ‘Naked’ is a fantastic introduction for new listeners, and a blinder of a tune, further building anticipation for their third album.

Whilst waiting patiently for Shape Of Water’s next release, as we will be, you can stream ‘Naked’ below:
