Kikker’s New Releases; It’s North Bank Nostalgia With A Punk Punch

Words: Brooke Crozier

Kikker; a four piece pop-punk band from Swansea have been making moves! ‘Trouble on the North Bank’ – Released on the 30th January was Kikker’s energetic cover of Dyfatty Flats’ 1970s punk anthem, which pays homage to Swansea City Football Club and the historic North Bank at the Vetch Field. However while the cover is a nod to a now-demolished piece of Swansea’s football history, ‘Trouble on the North Bank’ doesn’t just dwell on nostalgia but works to revives the spirit of that era

The track perfectly captures the passion and intensity of match days with explosive drums and throbbing bass throughout – Kikker truly have harnessed the raw spirit of old-school football culture and have channelled the spirit of the original song while also breathing new life into the classic – by having injected it with their signature blend of punk energy and a chaotic charm. In summary the cover is punk in its purest form – loud, dirty, and burning with local pride

Kikker then released ‘Destroy’ on March 13th 2025, this is a track that’s gritty, raw, but also oddly soothing — the kind of song that gets how overwhelming life can feel without trying too hard to fix it

The track starts slow, with a deep bassline and echoey guitar that feels almost hypnotic. It builds into something heavier, but never loses that thoughtful, almost spaced-out vibe and lyrically the track talks about cycles of burnout, feeling stuck, reminiscent of being spaced out  of modern life and societal pressures

‘Destroy’ touches on some heavy topics throughout the track; such a system failures and spirituality; or lack thereof, However despite these topics the track doesn’t feel hopeless; just real. The honesty of the track is refreshing – no sugar coating, the accompanying music video fits the songs lyrics and instrumentals – with hazy dreamy visuals that can almost seem eerie at times

Both tracks have been a great addition to Kikker’s growing discography and builds growing excitement for their next release and upcoming tour!
