Indie-rock legends The Amazons have finally released their highly anticipated 5th single, ‘Night After Night’, from the upcoming album ‘21st Century Fiction’.
The hard-hitting, rage-infused anthem has been a fan favourite since the band began performing it live in June 2023. Now, as the final single before the album’s release, it’s sending fans into a rifftastic frenzy.
If you were to take the core elements of an Amazons track– meaty bass, gritty guitar riffs, killer solos, heart-pounding drums, and vocals which so perfectly weave a narrative– and then injected it with steroids, you’d get ‘Night After Night’.
“My pulse is getting quicker, my finger on the trigger”, the song’s passionate lyrics act as a build of momentum. The pent up emotions, ready to explode any second. Once they do, we’re hit with an iconic Amazons breakdown and an Alderton guitar solo. Inspired by the sound of bands like Royal Blood and Queens Of The Stone Age, the breakdown is full of desert rock riffs with a hint of grunge. Together, we’re given a solo that is impossible not to head bang to, transporting the listener to some form of video game boss fight.
The song closes with vocals from the talented Ella McRoobb, who has been a regular guest on the new selection of Amazons singles. She sees out the song with ethereal vocals, bridging it to a perfect close with a rest from the previously experienced rock whirlwind. Having heard this song live multiple times, alongside the other new singles, singer/songwriter Matt Thomson wears his heart on his sleeve, showing what the band are made of, proving the eternal nature of rock and roll.
