Leon Blanchard is a singer/songwriter who first stepped onto the scene around 2007 when he fronted the indie band The Brightlights. After a short but successful stint with The Brightlights, Leon took a step back to focus on writing, refining his art and redefining his sound. This introspective reinvention came to a head during the pandemic, finding inspiration within the isolation that gave birth to an album produced by Dave Formula. Now in 2025 Leon has recently released his single ‘Astronaut’, hoping to continue his post-pandemic form.
‘Astronaut’ is a song focused on the idea of craving an exit – discussing the concept of looking down upon the world from above and floating out into an escape. The sound of this single reinforces these ideas through the spacey delay-filled instrumentation conjuring both images of a literal floating away as well as a nostalgic filled look at life and the wider world that surrounds us.
With this latest single Leon Blanchard shows off his characterful vocals that are filled with personality and the emotive undertones so clearly intended for his charismatic music. These vocals pair brilliantly with the nostalgic instrumentation already mentioned to amount to a song that is a testament to Leon’s musical skills and definitely worth the wait.
Leon’s career so far showcases a musician who could have once given up or accepted defeat after his time with The Brightlights but rather returned with extra determination and perseverance resulting in a sound that is pumped-full of the work and passion put in to get here.
‘Astronaut’ is a brilliant example of this sound, acting as an embodiment of Leon’s love for music and his artistic talents.
