A Brilliant Set That Was Let Down By An Unenthusiastic Crowd: Fontaines D.C At Reading Festival Review

Words: Ben Kelly

After releasing their new album last Friday, there was even more
excitement for Fontaines D.C’s set the following day on the Saturday of Reading.
Starting off with one of their earlier released songs off their new album Romance
which was then transitioned very smoothly into one their older classics ‘Jackie Down
The Line’. This set also gave us a great mixture of both older songs with all the
classics such as ‘I Love You’, ‘Boys in a Better Land’ and ‘Nabokov’ and then five
songs from their new album ‘Romance’. However, despite putting on a great set I don’t feel like the crowd was great and I think they would’ve fitted in better with the Sunday lineup crowd with more similar bands performing on that day.

I definitely think Fontaines D.C. could be future headliners of festivals such as Reading and Leeds and have an extremely bright future ahead which will be very exciting to watch.

They even seem to be catching the eye of a lot of artists aswell with the likes of Harry Styles attending their album release gig in London Electric Ballroom last Thursday. Fred Again is another fellow artist who seems to be a big fan, spotted watching their set at Reading before headlining the same night wearing the band’s merch.

What is your favourite song of the new album and will you be attending their tour at the end of this year ?
